Dry Ginger powder is also known as Sonth in Hindi. The powder is extracted from the ginger root which is dried. It is a fine off-white or slightly brownish powder that has a strong aroma and a pungent flavour.
Dry ginger facilitates weight loss by improving digestion, which helps in burning stored fat and processing glucose in the blood. It also speeds up metabolism and controls fat absorption, thanks to its thermogenic properties. Another benefit of dry ginger is its ability to curb hunger and overeating.
It is pale yellow in color and should have a pungent, spicy smell to indicate freshness. Ground ginger has a warm, spicy bite, is a little bit sweet, and is not as strongly flavored as fresh ginger. Like the name indicates, dry ginger powder is the grounded form of dried ginger roots. It is essentially used as a seasoning agent. However, the powdered form doesn’t carry the strong pungent flavor from the roots. Hence, it is used for giving a mild taste to the dishes.
